What would St. Patrick's Day be without a rainbow? And this is a really fun one! You're going to need some multicolored mini marshmallows, paper, colored marker, and glue. The idea is that you are going to draw the outline of a rainbow, separating the different bands of colors, and then your kiddo will glue the marshmallows onto the appropriate spots. Anytime that we have an activity that involves working with food, things could get a little tricky. So, check out the original craft and then check out my suggestions:
MODIFICATIONS: When children are asked to work with marshmallows (or any type of yummy food, for that matter), some tend to have a hard time using them solely for work and not snack. There are a couple of ways to try to avoid your little one eating their arts supplies (sometimes, even after they have glue on them). You can try providing two separate bowls of marshmallows - one to eat from and one to work from. Have them clearly labeled and explain the labels to your child. A stick figure of a someone with his hand to his mouth near the one to eat from and a figure of someone with his hand to a paper would likely do the trick. You can also get a little more involved by writing out a quick instruction sheet that notes how many marshmallows must be glued first and then how many can be eaten, in a sort of turn-taking fashion. Either way should help a bunch get the marshmallows both on the paper and in the mouth with less frustration!
