Many, many artists have drawn portraits, pictures of people.
Today, your kiddo is going to get to use shapes to put together a picture of herself, looking slightly similar to Pablo Picasso's cubism portraits. To get to this one, you're going to need to scroll way down on the Picasso Portrait Project page. You're looking for the picture of the blank head with a bunch of shapes at the bottom of the page. You're little one will be cutting those out and, then gluing them to the head to create a cubist sort of face. After she's done that, she can add hair and eyes (they should match her color hair and eyes) and her Picasso-esque self-portrait will be complete!
MODIFICATIONS: In order to help your kiddo with the cutting, you might want to add a line underneath the head, directly above the shapes. This way, your little one will be able to clearly distinguish what she will be cutting and what she won't. She can even cut on the line that you make to remove the shapes from the page, all together, before continuing on to cut them out. For little one's who might have some difficulty cutting, go ahead and trace over the lines of the shapes with a marker or highlighter. Sometimes, that little bit of added color makes all the difference and can turn a child who has difficulty cutting into a pro. Have fun!
