Here's a fun idea for your little one: make some ice and paint with it! Don't use just any ice, of course. Before you freeze the ice, you're going to want to color the water with food coloring. This way, when the ice freezes, you've got beautifully colored ice, all ready to go. Regular ol' paper won't do for this painting project. The water from the ice is too much for it. Something a little thicker would be better. Consider a coffee filter. The color should spread out pretty nicely on one of those.
MODIFICATION: No way around it, ice is cold. If you're kiddo is having some reservations about playing with it, offer gloves or mittens. If possible, you might even want to keep an extra pair on hand for when the first gets pretty wet. If you don't think that this will be enough, then just add some popsicle stick to the water before you freeze the ice cubes. This way, your little one will have something to hold onto that isn't the cold, wet ice.
