Christmas Tree Counting (with modifications)
One last time, before Christmas, we're going to head over to the Confessions of A... Homeschooler website to explore a little bit more of the Christmas Activity Pack. Nothing says Christmas like evergreen trees and brightly shining star and, on pages 22-27, that's exactly what you'll find. It's a counting activity, and it's a good one! Check it out by clicking on the link below, and then we'll chat about some thoughts that I had.
MODIFICATION: So, your little one is being asked to count the ornaments on each Christmas tree and to glue the star with the corresponding numeral to the top of the tree itself. Here are a few ways to help it go as smoothly as possible: make sure to have your kiddo touch each ornament as she is counting it. This really helps with the development of one-to-one correspondence and often helps the child more accurately count. Something that might help even more is to put a dot inside each ornament that is counted. This way, your child doesn't have to worry about remembering which ornaments have already been counted. If your little one isn't quite there when it comes to recognizing written numbers just yet, maybe you can draw some dots in each square with the star, corresponding to the written number. This way, if your child doesn't recognize the number right away, she can just count the dots and keep on working!
