Christmas Tracing Activity (with modifications)

Just in time for Christmas, Carisa over at 1+1+1=1 has got a fantastic Christmas Preschool Pack. Similarly to what I did with her Thanksgiving Pack, I'm going to highlight a few of the activities that she has to offer and suggest potential modifications to help out anyone whose kiddo would totally be into the activities, if only... fill in the blank. Bear in mind, these are modifications that pop into my mind that would have made a huge difference to many of the child that I have worked with over the years. If your little one is getting stuck at a different point, shoot me an e-mail at mike@mrmiketv.com and let me know!

The first of the 4 activities that I'll be delving into is the "Help The Shepherd Get To Baby Jesus" activity. It's the third activity in the pack. For this activity, your little one is asked to trace along a dotted line to help 3 shepherd on the left side of the page get over to the baby Jesus on the right side. One dotted line is straight, one is triangley, one is curvy, and so on. So, if you haven't done so already, go ahead and download the pack, take a look at what I'm talking about and, if you think that your kiddo might find some of those lines a little tricky, meet me back here.

MODIFICATION: This kind of tracing activity is great small motor practice for your little. But, when she is having some difficulty with it, it may not only be a physical skill that you can work on to get her through it. Sometimes, looking at the entire line  and all of its point parts, wavy parts, boxy parts, may be a little much to take in at once. Try breaking each line into smaller parts, the way that you might break a set of instructions down into smaller, one or 2 step directions. The best way that I can think to do this with a line is simply to draw a dot at each point on the line. In this way, your kiddo doesn't have to worry about the whole entire line, just about getting from one point to the next. The same fine motor practice is there, just smaller pieces.

Other Modifications In The Nativity Pack:
        Christmas Cutting, Sorting, And Gluing
        Christmas Counting And Matching
            Christmas Beginning Letter Sounds
