Candy Cane Counting (with modifications)
Some of the most fun activities are ones that include some gluing, I find. Thanks to the Confessions of A... Homeschooler website, there is a Christmas Activity Pack available where our kiddos can do plenty of that. Right now, let's take a look at a counting activity that will allow us to glue, also. It can be found on pages 14-17 of the pack, which you can download right here:
MODIFICATION: The idea here is to count up the candy canes and write the appropriate number in the small box below them. We're also given small numbers in squares on the very last page that we can give our children who are either not quite ready to be writing numbers, are working on recognizing written numerals, or just love gluing. Presenting all of those numbered squares to your little one may be a little overwhelming and tough to handle. If you're finding this to be true, try only presenting her with the numbered squares for that particular pages. Still a little tough? Maybe only show her two possible numbers, the correct one and one extra. Also, when she's counting, it's always a good idea for her to be touching each of the candy canes and she moves along. It's great 1:1 correspondence work (more on that here) and it will keep things nice and simple. Enjoy!
