Jack-o-Lanterns and Feelings (with modifications)

It's a happy day when we get to work on a pumpkin activity! Or is it a sad one? Or an angry one? Today, your kiddos are going to get to draw their own Jack-o-Lantern faces, working to make them look like a specific emotion. The pages, ready for your children to draw on, are available on pages 12 and 13 of the Pumpkin Fun Preschool Pack.

Identifying emotions of others can be pretty tricky for some little ones, let alone drawing those emotions. There are a few different ways to go about helping kiddos with this task. Both of the ways that I am going to mention here require that the children work in a group, taking one picture at a time. Help all of the kids to focus on the first box only. You can verify that everyone is looking at the same spot but asking the little ones to put their fingers on the box. Then, read the text. They are supposed to draw a happy face. Ask all of the children to make happy faces. You should make a happy face to. Point out, using your own face, some of the important features involved in making a happy face - eyebrows, mouth, etc. Once you have identified these features, your little ones will have something more to go on as they draw their picture. Repeat this for each jack-o-lantern. In addition, you can draw a jack-o-lantern face, yourself, up in front of the class, again, noting the important facial features that help create the appropriate expressions. Have fun!
