A great way to work on color recognition is to talk to your child about her favorite color. Chances are, she does have one and, chance are, you already know what it is - kids are not usually tight lipped about that sort of thing. Here is a cute worksheet that will give your child the opportunity to use lots of different colors. Is her favorite one of the ones that she is going to be using for the picture? The catch with this worksheet is that your kiddo is being asked to figure out what color to use for each of the circles in that make up the caterpillar by comparing the color words in the square to the words in the caterpillar circles. Then, when the caterpillar is all colored, have your child put an arrow or a check next to the circle with her favorite color in it. Also, have her circle the word in the square that is her favorite color.
MODIFICATIONS: You can help your child compare the words in the square to the words in the circles by looking at them, one at a time, letter by letter. For example, first start with the word, Orange. Look at each circle word, starting at the top, until you get to the word that starts with an, O. Move through the rest of the words, comparing one letter at a time, until you are certain the word matches. If comparing words in the square to the words in the circles is a little too much for your little one, try highlighting the words in the circles with the appropriate colors. It might make all the difference!
