I have always found that kiddos enjoy playing in rice. What's more, it is so perfect for little ones who have some tactile defensiveness (there are just some things that make them feel uncomfortable to touch). The draw of playing in something like rice is often greater than their desire to avoid it and, in this way, they are helping to desensitize themselves a little bit. Add a few measuring cups to the rice and, now, they can pour it back and forth. Bury some of their toys in the rice and they can hunt for them. It a totally great way to make old, stale toys new, fresh, and fun again! Have an old shape sorter around the house? Bury the shapes. The possibilities are endless. Go ahead and set up your Sensory Bin (yeah, now you can absolutely go around bragging about how you have a Sensory Bin - you rock!) in a clear plastic box with a lid that won't fall off too easily, but won't be impossibly tricky for your child to pry off (one with those locking clips, like this one
, perhaps?) Oh, and have fun!!! There is no end to what your kiddo will discover!
