MODIFICATIONS: Before we get into the sorting activity, take a second to think about how your little one does when it comes to cutting and gluing. Are they getting close to cutting on the lines or is it still a little tricky? When they use glue, do they use a (relatively) appropriate amount or are we talking an entire glue bottle emptied in mere moments? If you'd like to check them out, there are some fantastic tips to help with both of those scenarios at the bottom of this post. Now, with the cutting and gluing aside, let's talk about the sorting. The boxes up at the top of the page are labeled with print. Print is fantastic for little ones as they are developing their literacy skills, but it may be tricky for them when they are using their powers of cognition on the sorting aspect of this activity. So, to take the need to remember what is supposed to go where out of the equation, go ahead and draw a little picture of a person next to the word, "People," and an animal next to the word, "Animals." Stick figures or whatever you can do will be just fine and dandy. Also, once these pictures are drawn go ahead and ask your kiddo to point out where each piece is going to be placed prior to adding glue and placing it. In this way, she can focus completely on the sorting aspect at first and, only when she has done that, move on to the gluing.
