Candy Cane Coloring (with modifications)

I just found the site, Confessions of A... Homeschooler, and I love it! There are such great thoughts, activities, and ideas there. And there are so many of them, too! I would like to spend a little bit of time going through the Christmas Preschool Activity Pack because... well, it's cool and I love Activity Packs! So, for the next week, I'm going to focus my modification posts on this great set of activities. So, grab the activities from the Confessions... website and, then, turn to Page 2, with the picture of a candy cane. I'll write more below.

MODIFICATION: On the 2nd page of the pack, there is a picture of a candy cane with a poem beside it. After he reads the poem (or has it read to him) your little one is supposed to color the picture of the candy cane. I am all for kid coloring pictures however they would like to color them as opposed to, "the right way." But, in this case, when you are talking about the meaning of the red and white stripes, it seems a little more important to color the candy cane with red and white stripes. There are a couple of things that might help a little one who is struggling with this task. First, you can go ahead and show your child a picture of a candy cane or, even better, get a real candy cane to show them. After the activity, it can be snack time! Here are some very yummy gluten free ones: Bob's Original Red & White Candy Canes 12ct.. For a little bit more, you can even go so far as to trace over the outline of each red stripe with a red crayon or marker. It will give your child a really good visual cue to help them get the job done!
