Tons Of Thanksgiving Activities (part 1)

With Thanksgiving coming up, this is a great set of activities for your little one. It's available from 1+1=1=1.com. If your child is in preschool, it would make a great suggestion for her teacher. Speaking as a teacher, no matter how prepared we are, it's always great to have something on standby. If you are a homeschooler... Jackpot! Because there are so many good ideas in there, I'm going to take the next 3 days and give you a modification per day. The 3 we'll be talking about are the Color By Number page, the Color The Turkey mini-book, and the People/Food sorting activity. You can download the whole pack for yourself, right here!

MODIFICATIONS: On page 15 of the Preschool Pack, you'll find a Color By Number activity. Sweet, right!? But, looking at all of those blank spaces, numbers, and words can definitely be a little overwhelming. You can make it a little more clear by going ahead and coloring in one or two in front of your child as an example. Don't pick the number 1 - there's only one of those. But, there are plenty of numbers 3 and 4. And, when I say to show your kiddo an example, I mean really show them. Walk them through the whole process, from picking a spot to color, identifying the number, finding that number on the bottom of the page, noting the color (you can even sound out the written for if you've got a pre-reader on your hands), grabbing the appropriate color crayon, and coloring in just that space. A lot of steps? Heck, yes, it is. Somehow, activities for kids always tend to be! But this will really simplify it all and they'll get all of the good stuff that comes with a color by number activity (color recognition, visual discrimination, recognizing written numerals, pre-reading, fine-motor development) as well!
